The vehicles at Porsche Nashua trace their lineage to a company we founded in 1931 by Ferdinand Porsche. Called Dr. Ing. h. c. F. Porsche GmbH, it rapidly established a reputation as a tuning house and builder of cars — including legendary racers — for other brands. What we think of as the modern form of the company kicked off 70 years ago, in 1948. That year, Ferdinand’s son Ferry Porsche took the company in a new direction: building its own cars, each better than the last.

The first Porsche car was registered on June 8, 1948. The Type 356 would endure for 17 years and would count Janis Joplin, Steve McQueen, Jerry Seinfeld, and a number of Beatles among its devotees. How do you replace a classic? With another classic, of course. The Porsche 911 debuted in 1963 and has been the linchpin of the new Porsche lineup for the 55 years since.

Subsequent years would see Porsche AG motor from success to success. Those early icons would be joined by new ones like the company’s first SUV (the Porsche Cayenne), sporty roadsters (the Porsche 718 Cayman and Porsche 718 Boxster), and enviable executive cars (the Porsche Panamera series). Along the way, the brand was also responsible for many WEC and LeMans wins and cemented a towering status in American culture.

That status is reflected in a number of events taking place this year as the company celebrates 70 years of excellence. Among the highlights are a just-opened exhibit called The Porsche Effect at the Petersen Automotive Museum in LA, a series of Porsche AG-sponsored “Sports Car Together Day” events worldwide on June 9, and other events throughout the year.

Even your Nashua Porsche dealership is getting in on the fun. As we’ve done in years past, this year will feature several Porsche Rally Days sponsored by Porsche Nashua. The events start in April, and we’ll be keeping you posted with dates, times, and activities here and on our Facebook page.
