The 2021 Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid is the latest in a range of E-hybrid vehicles that are gracing the North American market. Consumers have a lot of other choices with respects to hybrid vehicles, so what makes the Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid stand out?
New Green Features
For starters, the 2021 model is fitted with a 17.9-kilowatt-hour battery, an improvement from the 14.1 kwh battery from the outgoing 2020 model. The result is a 30% boost in electric range. While official numbers haven’t been released yet, the 30% increase should yield roughly 30 miles on electricity.
The Sport Chrono Package, which comes standard for the hybrid version of the Porsche Cayenne, has a modified E-Charge mode. This mode utilizes the engine for charging the battery while the car is in operation. The E-Charge now charges the battery to 80% capacity, as opposed to 100% in the previous model. While this may seem like a downgrade, the move actually preserves engine power since charging becomes less efficient once it reaches the 80% mark.
Charging the Porsche Cayenne E-Hybrid
At home, you can charge the vehicle using the Porsche Mobile Charger Connect. There’s also an optional timer you can purchase that programs the charger to only charge during peak efficient times to minimize home energy use. There’s an optional Home Energy Manager system you can use that examines the home’s total energy usage and evaluates whether charging your vehicle at certain points of the day will overload the electrical system.
