As a New England Porsche dealer and marketing director representing Porsche of Nashua, I was anxiously awaiting the date of August 19th that had been placed on my calendar for months. Is there anything better than Newport in the summer? I blocked off the date, drew a sailboat in the space and got my Sperry Top Siders ready for the trip.
When I arrived, my first stop was Hotel Viking, an iconic hotel in the heart of Newport. This is where the automaker displayed the vehicles and where I was to meet our Porsche representative. As I drove up the entrance, I was immediately impressed. Two Porsche cars lined the drive: the all new Porsche 718 Boxster and the Porsche Macan. Two Porsche bikes with wicker baskets immediately followed the vehicles. Very Newport.
The red carpet was rolled out from the moment I arrived till the moment I departed. It started with Keith McIntosh taking me for a test drive in the all new Porsche 718 Boxster, where he showed me the correct hand positioning on the wheel as well as the Porsche PDK functionality.
After a short trip of Newport by road, I then toured the city by boat with New York Yacht Club member and our tour guide, Bill Doyle. Bill knew everything you wanted to know about the history of Newport, the prestigious New York Yacht Club and yachting.
The experience was complete with a cocktail on the New York Yacht Club’s lawn while we watched the sailboats make their way back home.
If you are planning a trip to Newport, make Hotel Viking your first destination. Jump into a Porsche car to experience its performance and to see why Porsche drivers are passionate ones. You will not be disappointed.
